Detecting randomly modulated pulses in noise
نویسنده
چکیده
All signals that are normally called "periodic" have some amplitude and phase variation from period to period. For example an active sonar system transmits a periodic pulse train to detect targets. The received pulses are not perfectly periodic due to random modulation of the pulses from scattering and attenuation. Target scattering and propagation distortion of the transmitted and received signals produce seemingly random variation from pulse to pulse. A stochastic nonparametric model of period-to-period variation is presented in this paper. This model is used to derive an asymptotic likelihood-ratio test for wide bandwidth pulses that undergo a random modulation from pulse to pulse. It is shown that the test statistic is a linear combination of the matched filter using the expected value of the received signal as the matching vector and the signal's periodogram. @ 2003 Elsevier Science B. Capacitive Flux Compression Generator (RESEARCH NOTE)
Conventional Flux Compression Generators (FCG's) are used to generate high power DC pulses. A new kind of (FCG's) with series capacitance called Capacitive Flux Compression Generator (CFCG) will be introduced and explained in this paper. This new kind is used to generate modulated high power pulses. There are some problems to establish a capacitance in high power and high frequency applications...
متن کاملSignal-to-Noise Ratio for Confocal Microscopy when Using the Intensity-Modulated Multiple-Beam Scanning (IMS) Technique
-The Intensity-modulated Multiple-beam Scanning (IMS) technique involves the use of modulated laser beams for specimen illumination, combined with lock-in amplifiers in the detection channels. In previous studies we have shown that this technique efficiently reduces cross-talk between the channels when simultaneously detecting multiple fluorophores. A drawback with the IMS technique is that it ...
متن کاملExperimental Dynamical Evolution of the Brillouin Precursor for Broadband Wire- Less Communication through Vegetation
In this paper, we report experimental results on detecting and analyzing the Brillouin precursor through vegetation at frequencies from 500 MHz to 3GHz. An experimental method to collect data is reported. The outcomes in terms of energy and time-spreading are presented using modulated rectangular and Gaussian pulses, as well as a sequence of rectangular pulses. Using field-collected data, this ...
متن کاملReal-time coherent detection of phase modulated ultrashort pulses after time-to-space conversion and spatial demultiplexing.
Phase modulated sub-picosecond pulses are converted by a time-to-space processor to quasi-monochromatic spatial beams that are spatially demultiplexed and coherently detected in real-time. The time-to-space processor, based on sum-frequency generation (SFG), serves as a serial-to-parallel converter, reducing the temporal bandwidth of the ultrashort pulse to match the bandwidth of optoelectronic...
متن کاملBroadband noise limit in the photodetection of ultralow jitter optical pulses.
Applications with optical atomic clocks and precision timing often require the transfer of optical frequency references to the electrical domain with extremely high fidelity. Here we examine the impact of photocarrier scattering and distributed absorption on the photocurrent noise of high-speed photodiodes when detecting ultralow jitter optical pulses. Despite its small contribution to the tota...
